More....More Than Words

The More Than Words group from LHS and NLHS visited LCS's 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade classrooms last week.  The activity in the photograph involves the students in creating an illustrated representation of one of our R.A.C.E. themes: RESPECT, ACCEPTANCE, COOPERATION, or EFFORT.  The students shared their products as a group upon completion.  Thank you to the entire group of outstanding role models from both high schools for making this special day possible.

International Food Day

A class of second graders planned, cooked, and prepared foods from around the world for their Book Buddies in sixth grade last Friday.  The dishes included: Lumpia from the Philippines, fried rice from China, California Rolls from Japan, and Hawaiian Cupcakes.

Student Placement for 2012 - 2013

Student Placement for 2012 – 2013

At around this time every year we start placing students with their homeroom teachers for the following year.  The staff members here at LCS understand the importance of this endeavor.

The process begins when a team of teachers that work with your child the most come together to create draft class lists.  This team includes your child’s teacher, the other grade level teachers, reading consultants, special education teachers, and the principal.  Additional comments provided by the special teachers are also taken into consideration.

If you are aware of any extenuating circumstances related to your child’s educational needs of which this team should be made aware, please submit these in writing or by email to me by May 11.  Please do not include the name of a specific teacher in your letter.  While we do take teaching and learning styles into consideration, peer relationships, learning needs, behavioral concerns, class size, gender parody, assessment data, and overall “chemistry” are also factored.

Parents should not feel that a letter will result in a perfect match.  However, it does ensure that the placement team is aware of your concerns and will take them into careful consideration.  If you do not wish to email the request, please submit your letter to the office in a sealed envelope.  Address the email or letter to me with "confidential" written in the subject line or on the envelope.

If you are planning to move over the summer, please let the school office know.  This information is helpful as we begin the placement process.

Thank You,

Mr. Keith
